We're Engaged!!!

Okay, so I've got a lot of catching up to do. So...Eddie and I are engaged! Wow, exciting, right?!

It all happened on May 23, 2008. Eddie and I had been dating for about a year and a half so naturally, we'd talked a lot about getting married (mostly the talk centered around what kind of ring I wanted...eventually we made a deal that if he got me the one carat I'd had my eye on...I'd show my gratitude by purchasing him the XBox 360 that suited his fancy as well...wow, we're a lot alike...). Although we spoke of getting engaged, I had no idea when he was actually going to propose. We had just bought a house and were getting used to mortgages and water bills-- and who knew electricity costs that much?? I figured our bank accounts could use a little time to adjust. Plus, Eddie and I talk frequently throughout the day (we drive around A LOT for work and with our unlimited mobile-to-mobile that means we keep eachother company on the long car rides) so I figured he couldn't sneak one past me and buy the ring without my knowing.

Well the end of May quickly came and we were headed to San Diego for my sister and brother-in-law's 10 year wedding anniversary (Congrats again!). Eddie was acting a little weird on the car ride and kept mentioning things like asking my dad for permission before proposing and saying silly things about how when he actually does propose he's going to say, "Yo...Woman....Marry me". I have to admit that the thought that he was going to propose did cross my mind, but I knew he would never be selfish enough to steal my sister's thunder and propose during her party! The thought quickly came and passed.

The morning of my sister's party, she and her husband exchanged vows at a church. Eddie and I had wanted to go to Balboa Park to check out wedding sites so we could put in for a permit. My whole family was together and hanging out and I kept putting off going to the park with Eddie because I didn't want to miss out! My sister Carrie and her husband Mike were putting so much pressure on me getting to the park. Finally, Mike got me to get out of the house and head to the park. Just after leaving "Hotel Molina" my mom called me and sounded frantic. She asked if Eddie and I could pick up her husband Charlie from the airport. Of course I said we could. When I told Eddie we needed to make a detour, he totally freaked out. Now, for those of you who don't know Eddie very well...he doesn't freak out. He is SO mellow! I could not believe that he was having such a hard time with picking up my mom's husband...it was no big deal, right? So, he headed to the airport and a couple minutes later, my sister, Carrie called and said she needed someone to help her carry her equipment to take pictures at the church for our sister, Domi. I thought it was weird that she was requesting that Charlie help her out , but figured it might ease the tension with Eddie (turns out that Eddie had text messaged her telling her of our dilemma).

Okay, so we finally got to Balboa Park, parked the car and got out. It was sooooo cold outside!! It was rainy, and wet...and I had no jacket! Eddie asked if we could go check out the park first before going inside. We went to the courtyard for a couple of minutes and Eddie started saying something cute (I coudln't tell you what he said because I was being such a brat!). I told him I needed to get inside right away because I was freezing and it was raining. Poor Eddie was so defeated! We went inside and got some information on the permit application process. Eddie asked if we could go see the court yard again. By some miracle, it stopped raining and the sun came out for a minute. We both were so excited as the site was so gorgeous and we were picturing how cool our wedding would look at this location. Eddie started saying something about how our journey started when he first asked me to lunch, and how we eventually began dating and living together and then how we bought a house together and soon we'd be married and later have a family. He then got down on his knee (I forgot to mention that for the past month or so, Eddie would get on one knee pretending to propose and then trick me by saying he was fixing his shoe). I could not believe he would say such a nice speach and then try to trick me again! I told him to get up and that he was being a jerk. Then he brought out the ring box. As soon as I saw it I could not believe it! I kept asking, "Are you serious?...No way, are you serious?" He asked me to marry him and he says I said yes about a hundered times. I don't remember that part...

Turns out, my whole family knew he was going to ask and just the night before, he showed all my siblings the ring!! I guess he was talking to my sister, Domi one day and she asked if he knew when he was going to propose. He told her that he wanted to during one of our trips to San Diego, but our trip fell through. Domi suggested he propose during the weekend of her party. He told her that he didn't want to steal the thunder, but Domi convinced him (I'm sure the thought of that XBox 360 didn't require much convincing...). It was so much fun to be able to celebrate with my whole family!! So, Domi and Tony, thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing your 10 year anniversary with us!!!

Our Blog?

Okay, Okay. I know I give a lot of people a lot of grief about blogs. I have to admit, however, that now that many of my family and friends have blogs, it's actually my secret addiction to peep in their lives to see what they're up to. I feel like a sneaky spy...even though it's not really great detective work on my part. Plus, I feel like with all the crazy events leading up to our wedding, it might be good to keep everyone clued in!

So check back here and there for all the sneak peak wedding plans and behind the scenes drama of wedding planning!!!
